Although Ubuntu is a piece of cake to get to grips with, for those who struggle, the Ubuntu Dapper Drake Guide is here! It is a very thorough wiki of everything you need to know about Ubuntu, and is constantly being updated. Speaking from experience, Ubuntu is a great distro, and I presonally reccomend it.

Encryption For PC – PC Voice Calls

23 May, 2006 at 6:30 pm (Posts)

Philip Zimmermann, creator of PGP, is again under government scrunity for creating a windows aplication that encryptsPC viocecalls. Most VOIP connections will be secure, by using Zimmermann's Zfone. But, the FBI wont be happy, not being able to wiretap skype, and listen in the same way they do with conventional phone lines. If you value your privacy, or communicateusing VOI and dont want the Feds listening in, the get yourself a copy of Zfone. http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/05/21/business/privacy.php

TV Tuner Review

23 May, 2006 at 6:25 pm (Posts)

If you have Sky+, you'll apricate how useful it is to be able to record TV that easily. My gripe with Sky+ is that you cant get a copy of what you recorded without burning it using a dvd recorder hooked up to your box. Im planning on buying a TV tuner for my computer and recording it to my hard drive., but I dont know where to start, what brands are best to go with etc. The guys Trusted Reviews ahve put together a review of a few TV tuners. http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?page=6803&head=0

Public Wi-Fi Hotspot Security

23 May, 2006 at 6:04 pm (Posts)

If you take your laptop down to your local starbucks, or maybe you live near waterloo trainstation and use their Wi-Fi, legal or not. Either way, anyone on that hotspot can read your traffic because you are all using the same password, meaning that anyone who has paid to use that hotspto can see everything you do. To make sure that no one is reading your web traffic and anything else you might be doing. I personally don't use public hotspots, but for anyone who does, then have a read. http://thinkhole.org/wp/2006/05/10/howto-secure-firefox-and-im-with-putty/
